Hamilton-Wentworth office of the Canadian Cancer Society will host its first ever Curl For Cancer bonspiel. The tournament is open to all ages and experience levels. That allows everyone to join in the fun while raising funds for the fight against cancer. It includes a silent auction, prizes, and the ultimate in bragging rights.

The event will be Saturday, Feb. 20 beginning at 9 a.m. Participants and spectators meet at the Glendale Golf and Country Club at 401 Mount Albion Rd. The cost is $200 per team.  For more information, email Jessica Thomas or call 905-575-9220.

The One Act Festival — Miss Caledonia

The year is 1955. Desperate to escape the chicory-pulling, stall-cleaning, hay-bailing drudgery of life in RR#2 Caledonia, Peggy Ann Douglas has a plan. Following in the footsteps of starlets Debbie Reynolds and Lee Meriwether, Peggy Ann will simply become a movie star — and she will start her journey to the top by winning the local pageant.

It’s a play written and starring Melody A. Johnson, and tickets are $25 each or $59 for The One Act Festival Subscription. The event begins at 8 p.m. at the Lighthouse Festival Theatre, 247 Main St., Port Dover. For more details, call toll free at 1-888-779-7703.

Outdoor skating at the waterfront rink

It may not feel like winter in the city this weekend, but the rink at Hamilton’s waterfront is still open for skating.

Enjoy the NHL-size rink behind Williams Fresh Café at 47 Discovery Dr. The rink is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (no sticks or pucks allowed). Skate rental concession and skate sharpening are available. Check for rink conditions before you head out.  Keep in mind, the rink is closed to the public Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. due to the learn-to-skate program.
