One day, I would like to…
Have you ever said, “One day I would like to…”? I had said that about walking the Camino de Santiago. When our precious granddaughter, Georgie, passed away this summer, I felt this was the time to go. Life gets shorter every day and you never know what’s around the corner, so why wait? Life happens, and if we don’t decide to pursue our dreams, they might just slip through our fingers. It’s easy (for me) to stick to the safe and predictable path but there’s so much living just beyond that safe boundary. Going on the Camino will undoubtedly be a challenge, yet the excitement of fulfilling a long-hidden dream is invigorating. Sometimes, all we need is that little push.
As I embark on what I affectionately call “my walk and talk with God,” I know it will be a time for reflection. The Camino’s 250+km trail from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, will provide me with the opportunity to process my thoughts and feelings, to heal from the pain of loss, and to find solace in the beauty of the journey.
Life has an uncanny way of changing everything in an instant. This summer, we bid a bittersweet farewell to our precious granddaughter, Georgia. She battled a rare disease that filled her young life with pain, yet she fought courageously until the very end. On July 17, she found relief from her suffering, and we found solace in knowing she could finally run, play, and enjoy her heavenly existence without limitations.
It was at that time that I decided it was time to place my aspirations at the forefront. The Camino represents not only a physical journey but a symbolic one, a path towards healing and growth. Preparation has been a family affair, with Craig standing by my side, helping me gather all the essentials, from hiking gear to foot care. The trip is slated for the first week of September and may take 3-4 weeks.
Walk the Camino de Santiago
As I walk the Camino de Santiago, I’ll be reflecting about embracing life’s uncertainties along the journey. There are times where an event reminds us that time is precious, and dreams should be pursued without hesitation. As I take this journey, I hope to inspire others to live their lives fully, to cherish their loved ones, and to step out onto paths less traveled.
